Pentanthrene type heterocyclic compounds, which contain oxazole, isoxazole, oxadiazole, thiazole, isothiazole, thiadiazole or pyrrole ring as C-ring, and naphthalene, quinoline, isoquinoline or quinoxaline ring as A.B-ring, were prepared, and their monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitory activities were examined.
