The title compound (I), a component of the HIV-1 protease inhibitor kynostatin, has been prepared via a tandem conjugate addition-electrophilic hydroxylation strategy using lithium (S)-(α-methylbenzyl)benzylamide and (+)-(camphorsulfonyl)oxaziridine.
