The antiausterity natural product (+/-)-uvaridacol L was synthesized for the first time in seven steps from myo-inositol. The key reaction of this synthesis, axial selective dibenzoylation of myo-inositol orthoformate, was achieved using a catalytic amount of tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF). The preferential cytotoxicity of racemic uvaridacol L against cancer cell lines able to adapt to nutrient deprivation was also evaluated under nutrient deprived conditions. Morphological evaluation was also carried out.

The first total synthesis of three echinodermatous sialyl inositol phosphosphingolipids, which exhibit unusual neuritogenic activity in the absence of nerve growth factor, are reported. Highlights of the syntheses include 9-O-methylation on sialic acid, inter-residual amide bond formation between sialic acid residues, and highly stereo- and regioselective sialylation of inositol. A key phosphodiester linkage between the mono-, di-, and trisialyl inositols and ceramide was formed at a late state employing the phosphoramidite method.

Natural products represent a rich source of antibiotics that address versatile cellular targets. The deconvolution of their targets via chemical proteomics is often challenged by the introduction of large photocrosslinkers. Here we applied elegaphenone, a largely uncharacterized natural product antibiotic bearing a native benzophenone core scaffold, for affinity-based protein profiling (AfBPP) in Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This study utilizes the alkynylated natural product scaffold as a probe to uncover intriguing biological interactions with the transcriptional regulator AlgP. Furthermore, proteome profiling of a Pseudomonas aeruginosa AlgP transposon mutant provided unique insights into the mode of action. Elegaphenone enhanced the elimination of intracellular P.aeruginosa in macrophages exposed to sub-inhibitory concentrations of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic norfloxacin.

The first representative of 5-fluoro-8-nitro-1,3-benzothiazin-4-ones was obtained through the condensation of 2,6-difluoro-3-nitrobenzoyl isothiocyanate and N-methylindole.

Methoxy-substituted benzenes are the simplest fragments from the lignin separation feedstock. Extensive experimental thermochemical studies of these compounds were carried out, including vapor pressure measurements, combustion and differential scanning calorimetry. These data were evaluated using empirical, semi-empirical and quantum chemical methods. The consistent sets of evaluated thermodynamic data were used to design the method for predicting enthalpies of vaporisation and enthalpies of formation of di- and tri-substituted benzenes. It has been found that the agglomeration of substituents on the benzene ring has dramatic consequences for the energetics of the molecule (in terms of the enthalpy of formation), as well as for the energetics of intermolecular interactions (in terms of the enthalpy of vaporisation). These observations are essential to reliably assess the energetics of the molecules that appear in reaction products of lignin transformations in value-adding chemicals and materials.

Herein, we present a nickel-catalyzed three-component reductive alkylacylation of electron-deficient activated alkenes with tertiary alkyl bromides and acid anhydrides. This method enables the efficient preparation of a variety of ketones with broad substrate scope and high functionality tolerance starting from simple precursors. The degradation of organic contaminants in aquatic systems has raised immense attention worldwide, and the second-order rate constant (k(SO4)(-)) of water pollutants oxidized by sulfate radical anion is an important index for assessing the degradation efficiency of organics. Herein, a new norm mathematical formula is defined. Based on this, four new descriptors are proposed and a QSPR model is developed for predicting k(SO4)(-) using 30 families of emerging organic pollutants in water. The statistical results fully prove that this model has good fitting effect and stability with R-2 of 0.8862, Q(LOO)(2) of 0.8466, and Q(5-fold)(2) of 0.8329, respectively. The validation results including cross validation, applicability domain analysis, and model comparison show that this model has good robustness, predictive performance, and reliability. These decent results indicate that the new norm mathematical formula is effective in calculating descriptors and the norm indexes have a great application for evaluating the transformation fate of organic pollutants by sulfate radical in aquatic systems.

A single-pot Cu-catalyzed enantio- and diaster-eoselective tandem hydroboration/borylative cyclization of alkynes with ketones for the synthesis of carbocycles is reported. The reaction proceeds via desymmetrization and generates four contiguous stereocenters, including an all-carbon quaternary center. The method provides rapid access to [6,5]- and [5,5]-bicycles and cyclopentane products. Catalyst-controlled diastereoselectivity by selection of bisphosphine ligand is noted.
