An electrosynthesis method for amide bond formation has been developed in an attempt to increase the atom economy for this class of reactions. This anion pool method electrochemically generates strong nucleophiles from amine substrates. The amine nucleophiles then react with acid anhydrides to generate amides, and the by- product from this reaction undergoes further chemical transformations to generate pharmaceutically relevant benzoic esters. These one- pot reactions are operationally simple, are performed at room temperature, and avoid rare transition metals and added bases. The amide synthesis is amenable to primary and secondary amines and a variety of anhydrides with yields up to 90% obtained. Atom economy and process mass index ( PMI) values calculated for this procedure indicate that this process can be considered greener compared to traditional amide synthesis routes used by industry. Furthermore, this electrochemical approach showed unique selectivity when substrates that contained two inequivalent amine moieties were examined.

A series of benzophenone derivatives bearing naphthalene moiety were designed, synthesized, characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and HRMS and evaluated for their antiproliferative activity against human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7). Most of the tested derivatives showed good to moderate cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cell line. Among them, compound 4u (IC50 = 1.47 +/- 0.14 mu M) was found to be the most active compound, which is more active than the standard drug cisplatin (IC50 = 15.24 +/- 1.27 mu M). In vitro tubulin polymerization in-hibition assay, EBI competition assay, cell cycle analysis, and cell apoptosis assay identified that compound 4u was a new tubulin polymerization inhibitor by targeting the colchicine binding site. Besides, molecular docking study showed that compound 4u has high binding affinities with the colchicine binding site of tubulin through hydrogen bond, cation-pi, and hydrophobic interaction.

The combination of an air-stable Ni precatalyst, dimethyl dicarbonate as an activator, and silane reductant effects this reduction for a wide variety of substrates, including pharmaceutically relevant structures, in good yields and with no overreduction to alcohols. A range of hitherto unexplored biomass-derived chemicals have been evaluated as new sustainable solvents for a large variety of CO2-based carboxylation reactions. Known biomass-derived solvents (biosolvents) are also included in the study and the results are compared with commonly used solvents for the reactions. Biosolvents can be efficiently applied in a variety of carboxylation reactions, such as Cu-catalyzed carboxylation of organoboranes and organoboronates, metal-catalyzed hydrocarboxylation, borocarboxylation, and other related reactions. For many of these reactions, the use of biosolvents provides comparable or better yields than the commonly used solvents. The best biosolvents identified are the so far unexplored candidates isosorbide dimethyl ether, acetaldehyde diethyl acetal, rose oxide, and eucalyptol, alongside the known biosolvent 2-methyltetrahydrofuran. This strategy was used for the synthesis of the commercial drugs Fenoprofen and Flurbiprofen.

The development of carbonaceous materials as metal-free catalysts integrating different types of catalysis in a single system represents a significant advance in cascade/tandem organic synthesis. Zero-dimensional carbon dots with tuneable optical properties and easily modifiable surface functionalities can be harnessed as a carbocatalyst for merging photooxidation and acid-catalyzed reactions in one pot. Herein, we explore carbon dots decorated with hydrogen sulfate groups as a photocatalyst for the dehydrogenative cross-coupling of xanthenes with ketones, arenes and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds that showed high efficiency and selectivity under visible-light irradiation. The sulphated carbon dots demonstrate dual catalytic properties, wherein they induced the rapid photooxidation of xanthenes in the presence of molecular oxygen to form a hydroperoxy intermediate followed by coupling of nucleophiles catalysed by the acidic surface functional groups. The methodology represents an operationally simple pathway for the generation of C-C coupling products in a short reaction time with wide substrate scopes under mild conditions. The catalyst is easily separable and can be reused over multiple cycles with good efficiency.

A highly regioselective, efficient, and metal-free oxidative cross dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) of aryl carbonyls with cyclic ethers has been developed. This method offers easy access to substituted alpha-arylated cyclic ethers with a high functional group tolerance in good to excellent yields. This study presents one-pot multicomponent preparation of 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthene derivatives under very mild conditions using cobalt-incorporated sulfated zirconia (ZrO2/SO42-/Co) as an efficient heterogeneous recyclable multifunctional nanocatalyst. The nanocatalyst was successfully characterized by FTIR, XRD, TGA, FE-SEM, TEM, ICP, and EDX analyses. The nanoparticles have a mean size of 13 nm, with a combination of the monoclinic-tetragonal crystal structure. A wide scope of aldehydes bearing different functional groups was condensed with dimedone and/or 1,3-cyclohexadione in water at room temperature with good-to-high yields at short reaction times. The catalyst can be efficiently recovered and reused several times without much loss of its activity. Besides, hot filtration test gives more insight into the heterogeneous nature of the catalyst. Finally, a plausible mechanism for this transformation was proposed. Graphical abstract A facile and convenient method for the synthesis of 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes has been developed using cobalt-incorporated sulfated zirconia as an efficient recyclable nanocatalyst.

1,10-Phenanthrolin-1-ium trinitromethanide (1,10-PHTNM) as a novel nano molten slat with Y-aromatic counter ion was synthesized and fully characterized by using various techniques such as FT-IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, mass, TGA, DTG, XRD, SEM and TEM. A series of organic compounds include 1,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazoles, tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran, pyrano[4,3-b]pyrans, bispyrazole, 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]quinolones, hexahydroacridine-1,8-diones and methylenebis(3-hydroxy-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-enones) were synthesized in the presence of 1,10-PHTNM as a novel and efficient proton sponge nano molten slat catalyst. According to the results of FT-IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, mass spectrum of 1,10-PHTNM and due to high electron charge density and none bonded repulsion of lone pair electrons between two nitrogen atoms (peri-effect), this catalyst is a type of proton sponge.
