In this work, 1,3,5,7-tetraazaadamantan-1-ium chloride (AIL) functionalized silica-coated calcium oxide hybrid nanocatalyst (CaO@SiO2@AIL) as a novel, efficient, green and recyclable heterogeneous ionic liquid catalyst was synthesized. Catalytic activity of the CaO@SiO2@AIL hybrid nanoparticles was investigated for synthesis of the pharmaceutically valuable 2-imino-2H-chromene and dihydropyrano[c]chromene derivatives. A wide range of amines and aromatic aldehydes containing either electron-withdrawing or electron-donating substituent were examined using optimized conditions to produce the desired products. 2-Imino-2H-chromenes were synthesized under solvent-free condition, and dihydropyrano[c]chromenes were prepared in aqueous medium as green conditions within short reaction times, high yields and using easy workup procedures. Structure confirmation and surface properties of the core/shell hybrid nanoparticles were considered via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, WDS map scan, thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. This IL-supported heterogeneous nanocatalyst can be reused at least six times without considerable loss of its performance.

Highly regioselective silylation of primary hydroxyl groups of unprotected polyols and diols was obtained by the use of a mixed solvent of MeCN/DMF (10:1) in this study. DMF was discovered to be a good catalyst in this reaction, although the silylation using DMF as a solvent has been a common method for more than 40 years. The catalytic mechanism of DMF for the silylation was also proposed herein after intensive investigation of the reaction by NMR techniques. The antifungal activity of a library of twenty-four aromatic methoximes was examined against five representative postharvest phytopathogenic fungi. The panel included Penicillium digitatum, Penicillium italicum, Rhizopus stolonifer, Botrytis cinerea and Monilinia fructicola, all of which cause relevant economic losses worldwide as a result of affecting harvested fruits. The minimum inhibitory concentrations and minimum fungicidal concentrations of each compound were defined and the main structure-activity relationships were determined. Although other congeners were more potent, drug likeliness considerations pointed to the methoxime derived from 2,4-dihydroxypropiophenone as the compound with the most suitable profile. The morphology of the colonies of the fungal strains treated with the methoxime was examined microscopically and the compound was also tested in freshly harvested peaches and oranges, exhibiting promising control profiles in both fruits, similar to those of the commercial agents Imazalil and Carbendazim.

Benzotriazoles (4-6) were synthesized which were further reacted with different substituted benzoic acids and phenacyl bromides to synthesize benzotriazole derivatives (7-40). The synthetic compounds (7-40) were characterized via different spectroscopic techniques including EI-MS, HREI-MS, H-1-, and C-13 NMR. These molecules were examined for their anti-hyperglycemic potential hence were evaluated for alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase inhibitory activities. All benzotriazoles displayed moderate to good inhibitory activity in the range of IC50 values of 2.00-5.6 and 2.04-5.72 mu M against alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase enzymes, respectively. The synthetic compounds were divided into two categories A and B, in order to understand the structure-activity relationship. Compounds 25 (IC50 = 2.41 +/- 131 mu M), (IC50 = 2.5 +/- 1.21 mu M), 36 (IC50= 2.12 +/- 1.35 M), (IC50 = 2.21 +/- 1.08 mu M), and 37 (IC50 = 2.00 +/- 1.22 mu M), (IC50 = 2.04 +/- 1.4 mu M) with chloro substitution/s at aryl ring were found to be most active against alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase enzymes. Molecular docking studies on all compounds were performed which revealed that chloro substitutions are playing a pivotal role in the binding interactions. The enzyme inhibition mode was also studied and the kinetic studies revealed that the synthetic molecules have shown competitive mode of inhibition against alpha-amylase and non-competitive mode of inhibition against alpha-glucosidase enzyme. Cyclin-dependent kinases play significant roles in cell cycle progression and are promising targets for cancer therapy. However, most potent CDK inhibitors lack the balance between efficacy and safety because of poor selectivity. Given the roles of CDK2 in tumorigenesis, selective CDK2 inhibition may provide therapeutic benefits against certain cancer. In this study, a series of 4-benzoylamino-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxamide derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated. The most selective compound DC-K2in212 in this series exhibited high potency towards CDK2 and had effective anti-proliferative activity against A2058 melanoma cell line and MV4-11 leukemia cell line while exhibiting low toxic effect on human normal cell lines MRC5 and LX2. The molecular modeling illustrated that compound DC-K2in212 had the similar binding mode with CDK2 as C-73, the most selective CDK2 inhibitor reported so far, which might account for selectivity against CDK2 over CDK1. Further biological studies revealed that compound DC-K2in212 suppressed CDK2-associated downstream signaling pathway, blocked cell cycle progression, and induced cellular apoptosis. The methoxy-, hydroxy-, and carbonyl-substituted benzenes are the simplest fragments from the lignin separation feedstocks. Extensive experimental thermochemical studies of these compounds were carried out, including combustion calorimetry, vapor pressure measurements, and differential scanning calorimetry. We have collected available primary experimental results on enthalpies of formation and vapor pressures as well as on phase transitions, liquid-gas, liquid-solid, and crystal-liquid. These data were evaluated using empirical, semiempirical, and quantum chemical methods. The consistent sets of evaluated thermodynamic data were used to design the method for predicting enthalpies of vaporization and enthalpies of formation of di- and trisubstituted benzenes. It is expected that parameters and pairwise interactions will be transferable to predict the thermochemical properties of poly methoxy-substituted and poly hydroxysubstituted benzenes that appear in reaction products of lignin transformations in the value-adding chemicals and materials.
