The EPS-deficient Xoo mutant gumH triggered a stronger defence than its parent strain ZJ173. The thiadiazole treatments reduced EPS production by strain ZJ173, but not by the thiadiazole-resistant strain 2-1-1, which is thiadiazole resistant invivo, but not invitro; moreover, enhanced defence was not detected in thiadiazole-treated rice inoculated with 2-1-1. Based on these data, we infer that zinc thiazole and bismerthiazol promote rice defence against Xoo by inhibiting the production of bacterial EPS.

Among those, compound 6n (C5; methyl-S) displayed 500-fold higher inhibitory potency on PFTase than PGGTase-1. Compound 6n was shown to affect rat smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation at concentrations similar (IC50 = 61.4 mu M) to those required to inhibit [H-3]-farnesol incorporation into cellular proteins (-44.1% at 100 mu M). Finally, compound 6n interferes with rat SMC proliferation by blocking the progression of G0/G1 phase without inducing apoptosis, as assessed by [H-3]-thymidine incorporation assay and flow cytometry analysis. A series of donor-acceptor diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives has been investigated to reveal their optical, electronic, and charge transport properties for applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic solar cells (OSCs). The calculated results show that their optical, electronic, and charge transport properties are affected by the different end groups. The introduction of the 2,5-diphenylthiophene, benzo[c]isothiazole, benzo[c]thiophene, benzo[c]thiophene, 2,4-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazole, and thieno[3,4-b][1,4] dioxine end groups can broaden absorption spectrum and improve charge transport property of the designed compounds. Our results suggest that the designed compounds can serve as donor materials for OSCs and luminescent materials for OLEDs. In addition, the mobility of the designed compounds is also investigated. They are expected to be promising candidates for hole and electron transport materials. On the basis of investigated results, we proposed a rational way for the design of multifunctional materials for OLED and OSC applications.
