Volatile compounds of past?rma under different curing processes

The effects of different curing processes (curing temperature 4C or 10C and curing agent 150?mg/kg nitrite or 300?mg/kg nitrate) on the volatile compound profile of the past?rma (Turkish dry-cured meat product) have been investigated. A total of 45 volatile compounds, including alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, terpenes, sulphur compounds, esters, furans and nitrogenous compounds have been identified in past?rma samples. The curing temperature did not have a significant effect on any compound. The curing agent had statistically a significant or very significant influence on 12 compounds. In general, the use of nitrate increased the amount of volatile compound. However, lower mean hexanal value was determined in past?rma samples cured with nitrite than those cured with nitrate. Practical applications: Past?rma is a traditional dry-cured meat product. It is produced from whole muscle and/or mucsles of certain parts of beef or water buffalo carcasses. In curing stage, nitrate was used generally. However, nitrite can be used alone or with nitrate in this stage. In this study, the effects of different curing conditions (150?mg/kg nitrite or 300?mg/kg nitrate and 4C or 10C) on volatile compounds of past?rma were investigated. According to the results, past?rma produced with nitrate generally showed higher amounts of volatile compounds. On the other hand, curing temperature was not significant factor in terms of volatile compounds.

Covalent inhibitors of the GTPase KRASG12C: a review of the patent literature

Introduction: KRAS is one of the most important oncology drug targets, playing a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of many human tumors. It has long been held undruggable due to many previously failed attempts to both directly and indirectly target this challenging GTPase protein family. Areas covered: This review covers patent applications claiming inhibitors of the mutant GTPase KRASG12C that act via covalent modification of cysteine at codon 12 in the period of 2014 to the present. A total of 37 PCT applications from 9 applicants are evaluated, with the discussion organized alphabetically by assignee name. Expert opinion: The last 5 years have seen an explosion in interest around this important target with many companies aiming to capitalize on the breakthrough discovery of covalent allosteric inhibitors of the glycine to cysteine mutant form of the enzyme. The first agents from this effort have now entered clinical trials and preliminary data are encouraging with responses seen in both lung adenocarcinoma and colorectal cancer patients.

Pollutants released from the pulp paper industry: Aquatic toxicity and their health hazards

The pulp paper industries release wastewater containing very complex organic and inorganic pollutants. These pollutants are discharged mainly pulping and bleaching process during paper manufacturing. The main gaseous pollutants hydrogen sulfides, sodium sulfide, methyl mercaptan, sulfur, and chlorine dioxide is reported for chronic, respiratory disorder and irritation to skin, eyes and cardiac problem along with nausea and headache. The major inorganic pollutants include ferrous, copper, zinc, nickel, and magnesium, which is reported for neurotoxicity, toxic to juvenile channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) and Accumulation to gill > liver > ovary > muscle. The detected major organic and inorganic pollutants are hexadecanoic acids, octacosane, beta-sitosterol trimethylsilyl ether, 1-tetradecane, 2-methoxy phenol, trichlorocatechol, tetrachlorocatechol, chlorophenols, chloroguaiacols, chlorosyringols, chlorocatechols, terpenes, methanol, phenol, alkylated phenols, decalone, benzoic acid, abietic acid, and dehydroabietic acid. Several of these compounds are reported as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). Therefore, direct toxicity of effluent to the reproductive system in aquatic flora and fauna are reported. Several reports have highlighted reduced gonad size, change in secondary sexual character, delayed maturity and suppression of sex hormone in fish rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) further the in-vitro studies of organic compounds on fish, Salmonella typhimurium, Vibrio fischeri, and Saccharomyces have shown inhibition in growth and luminescence properties. The presence of organic and inorganic pollutants in pulp paper industry wastewater causes phytotoxicity chromosomal aberration in Allium cepa. Thus the manuscript has concluded that detected pollutants produced foul odors and cause hermaphroditism in fish, hepatotoxicity and mutagenic effect. In addition, the growth of coliform bacteria in River and other aquatic resources has been reported due to contamination of PPI effluent. The studies also highlighted the presence of tannins, chlorophenols, dioxins, furans, biocide, fatty acids, and resin acids along with chlorolignine compounds as persistent organic pollutants (POP), which needs special attention for pollution prevention of rivers, lakes and other aquatic resources.

Dyeing properties of the disperse dyes containing cyano group based on benzisothiazole for polyester fabrics under alkali condition

One step dyeing of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fabrics combining pretreatment and dyeing under the alkali condition was developed for cleaner production. One step dyeing of PET fabrics required that the dye used has good acid and alkali stability. In this paper, dyeing properties of three azo disperse dyes containing cyano group based on benzisothiazole, 3- (4-N-ethoxyl-N-cyanoethyl -phenyldiazenyl)-5-nitro-2,1-benzisothiazole (D1), 3-(4-N-ethyl-N-cyanoethyl- phenyldiazenyl)- 5-nitro-2,1-benzisothiazole (D2), and 3-(N-benzyl-N-cyanoethyl- phenyldiazenyl)-5-nitro-2,1-benzisothiazole (D3), were investigated under alkali condition. The results showed that polyester fabrics could be well dyed with D1, D2 and D3 under the acid condition. However, D1 was decomposed while dyeing at the alkali solution. D2 and D3 had excellent color yields under the alkali condition. The acid-alkali stability and the structure change were analyzed by UV-vis spectrum and high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). Gaussian 09 program package was used to optimize geometry by B3LYP method and 6-31G (d) basis set. The solvation energy of D1 in water was higher than those of D2 and D3. The electron withdrawn effect of the hydroxyl affected the energy gap of HOMO and LUMO orbits. D2 and D3 showed excellent stability in the strong alkali medium. And the dyed polyester fabrics with D2 and D3 at the alkali condition also had good fastness properties.
